I am a psychoanalyst and licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Dupont Circle, where I work with individuals and couples. As a psychoanalyst, I believe our early experiences often shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. I help individuals and couples examine patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that often have their origins in early life experiences and may continue to generate feelings of unhappiness. Because therapy occurs within a relationship, I will often encourage clients to explore our relationship in therapy as a window into how they relate to others in their lives. I am also guided by cultural factors and believe that such issues are essential to consider when thinking about the people with whom I work. Although I emphasize the importance of self-awareness and reflection, I also feel comfortable incorporating other clinical interventions depending on a client’s presenting issues, level of readiness for therapy, and cultural background. In other words, I try to be flexible when working with people and tailor my approach to their unique dynamics.
