Couples Counseling

People enter into, remain in, and often leave relationships for many different reasons. Some will stay in unhappy relationships for years, continuing to fight with partners and growing ever more resentful in the process. These couples frequently have difficulty voicing their individual needs and being seen within the relationship.

My approach with couples is fair, compassionate, and flexible. Often couples who seek my assistance find themselves stuck in certain relational patterns that lead again and again to the problems they are hoping to address in counseling. I help couples explore their individual and shared pasts so as to better understand their respective fears, motivations, and behaviors within the relationship. Such exploration has the potential to assist couples with addressing past interpersonal conflicts that are repeated in the present.

Couples counseling has the potential to benefit any relationship, regardless of a couple’s gender identity or sexual orientation. As an affirming therapist, who often works with members of the LGBTQ+ community, I appreciate that loving relationships take many forms and frequently evolve throughout the lifespan of any relationship. My goal is to offer couples a safe space in which to explore their unique interpersonal dynamics without preconception or judgment.
